MAY 2002
Greetings and it has been a while, I trust you all had a good
Easter celebration. It is always a joy to come back and let you
all know what the Lord is doing in our lives. This past few months
has been a time of celebration of many new things. We were busy
connecting with local churches, multi-cultural groups and local
ministries to make a positive difference for Jesus Christ.
Birthday
Celebration: Time does fly, on February 6, 2002 we have
celebrated our twin daughters' Samy and Misha's 3rd birthday,
it was a time to get together with family and friends. We live
in a cul-de-sac with many Indo-Canadian families. We took this
opportunity to invite a lot of children for a time of Bible devotion
and celebration. We are always looking for opportunities to connect
with our Multi-Cultural groups.
Easter
Celebration: Easter season has been very hectic this year.
I had the privilege of writing a series of articles about Good
Friday and Easter for Multi-Cultural Newspapers. It is a great
opportunity to let our neighbors know the importance of Christ's
sacrificial death and resurrection. An Easter story excerpt from
a Punjabi newspaper is enclosed for a ready reference.
Jesus
Festival Celebration: A group of pastors from Hyderabad,
India have invited me to come for a possible Evangelism ministry.
As discussions progressed we have decided to sponsor "Jesus
Festival Hyderabad" November 7-10, 2002 to be held at
Hyderabad, India. At the same time we are also sponsoring a "Pastors'
Conference" at the same location. We estimate 120 pastors
and leaders will be trained and equipped in their ministries.
Dr. James Nikkel, Director of Church Extension
from the BC Conference of MB Churches has graciously agreed to
lead pastors' conference. Please pray and partner as David and
James plan their first missionary journey to India in November
2002. There are several expenses related to this project. You
are invited to sow the seed in bringing the gospel and equipping
pastors in Hyderabad, India. Please visit our website at www.mclauren.org
for more information about the Jesus Festival project.
Multi-Cultural
Celebration: This month, a group of young adults will
be in Abbotsford for a cross-cultural ministry experience. They
are a part of the TREK program from the Youth Mission
International, it is a ministry of Mennonite Brethren Missions
and Services International (MBMSI). They will be
learning about the 10/40 window countries, South Asian religions
and cultures. They will be visiting Sikh and Hindu places of worship
and having much interaction with ministry and community leaders.
Please pray for David as he gives direction to this
program and team in May 2002. I have recently had a number of
speaking opportunities in various churches in Grater Vancouver
area and serving them with a vision to reach their multi-cultural
neighbors. In 1999 a survey stated that 54% of British Columbia
residents speak a different language other than English at home.
British Columbia has accepted Punjabi as the third language to
be taught in schools. Many members of Parliament and top political
leaders are Sikhs and Chinese Buddhists. There is a great need
to reach our multi-cultural neighbors.
Family
Update: Sharmila continues to network and disciple many
Indo-Canadian women. It is a ministry needed to support and encourage
many new believers. We were sick for four weeks because of ear
and throat infections. We are doing well now; your prayers, cards
were much appreciated and remembered. This summer we have plans
to attend Annual Conference at Turlock, California. We have much
appreciated your friendship and partnership. Thank you again for
choosing to invest in our vision. If you would like to know more
about our ministries, please visit our website or feel free to
drop me a note.
Singing
His praises,
David
