An Angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, " Do not be afraid, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in he town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord". Luke 2: 9-11

NEWSLETTER NOVEMBER 2002

Dear friends,

Greetings and welcome to the winter edition of our newsletter. I would like to take this pleasure to wish you all a blessed Christmas. A quick update about our family. In September 2002, I made a quick trip to Hyderabad India to attend my mother's funeral and to complete formalities. Thank you for your support and continued prayers. I have recently resigned from MCC and working full time at the center. This letter gives information about the Centre for Multi-Cultural Ministries. It exists for a multi-cultural outreach and resource to motivate, equip and mobilize clergy and lay people for local and global evangelism. It is a registered non-profit organization.

Multi-Cultural Ministries Focus: Our centre serves all Christian churches of Greater Vancouver and offers year round information, referral services and cross-cultural counseling. We also conduct seminars on evangelism, discipleship, missions, prayer and leadership for clergy and lay people.

Our centre has been successful because of our commitment to key program features:

  • Adherence to program and fiscal accountability
  • Strong organization and planning
  • Well trained and highly qualified staff, volunteers and ongoing supervision

The objectives of our centre are the following:

  • Initiate outreach for multi-cultural evangelism and discipleship
  • Provide information and referral services and resources for the multi-cultural community at large
  • Mobilize clergy and lay people for local and global evangelism in Greater Vancouver
  • Resource and equip pastors and lay leaders and proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ in India

The Greater Vancouver area is the most culturally diverse city in North America. It is home to thousands of people from virtually every nation, culture and ethnic group. The community demographics have changed significantly in the last 25 years. A community profile of Greater Vancouver indicates that 45% of the total population are ethnic groups (non-Caucasians). There is a great need to reach them and very limited Christian resources to meet the needs of Multi-cultural groups.

Current Needs: The Multi-Cultural Centre focuses on two core areas; multi-cultural evangelism and discipleship and provides a resource base to church pastors, para church organizations, Bible Colleges and camps. As the demographics of Greater Vancouver changes there is an increasing need to reach multi-cultural groups.

This coming year proves to be our most exciting and challenging because of two projects.

  1. A Multi-Cultural Christian Resource: In operation since 1994, this program has resourced and equipped more than 500 influential lay leaders and church pastors. We offer year round information, referral services and cross-cultural counselling and conduct seminars on evangelism, discipleship, missions, prayer and leadership for clergy and lay people.
  2. Jesus Festival India 2003: Rev. David McLauren led the Jesus Festival in November 2000, which served to present the gospel and to equip and train pastors in India. In November 2002, Dr. James and Elfreeda Nikkel led Pastors and Lay Leaders Conference at Hyderabad, India. Lord willing in 2003 we will train, equip and resource lay leaders and pastors and present the gospel message of Jesus Christ to non-Christians.

Conclusion: We have been making a positive difference in our communities and beyond. There is still so much more to be done. In order to continue our important work and to help make more and better disciples of Jesus Christ, we need your help. With your help, we can make a positive difference in local and global evangelism and missions. The Multi-Cultural Ministries requests a generous donation to equip and resource pastors and to reach non-Christians. A tax-deductible receipt will be mailed in the New Year. We will give appropriate recognition to our supporters.

On behalf of the Multi-Cultural Ministries, I request that you favorably consider our request for support. Thank you again for choosing to invest in our vision. I would be pleased to provide any additional information that you may require.

Sincerely,

David McLauren.
