Resource Development Officer
Location: Abbotsford, BC
Status: Ongoing/Full-time
SCOPE:To
initiate and cultivate relationships with existing
and potential major donors (individuals and businesses) who
have the capability of making significant financial contributions
to the ministry of Multi-Cultural Ministries; and to professionally
and effectively articulate the mission and program of
multi-cultural to individuals and groups.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Develop annual contacting plans for all major donors
and
potential major donors. Prepare and submit an annual income
forecast and expense budget within the guidelines established
by the Executive Director.
2. Based on annual strategies, set appointments and make
contact on a prioritized, predetermined basis, cultivating active
contacts with donors and prospective donors for the purpose of
securing funds for the ministries of Multi-Cultural Ministries
in
Canada, United States and overseas.
3. Meet with decision-makers as necessary to provide insight
regarding Multi-Cultural, to determine specific areas of interest,
and to challenge those individuals to initial or increased financial
support of projects within Multi-Cultural annual fund. Once their
areas of interest are identified, present appropriate proposals
for funding to the church or individual. Follow up with timely
situation updates during times of disaster that are particularly
of interest to the donor.
4. Provide leadership for appropriate special events.
Determine key locations to maximize fund raising potential and
donor participation. Recruit, mentor and supervise volunteer leadership
to execute the events, whenever possible.
5. Insure that all gifts from donors assigned to this
position are properly and promptly acknowledged according to a
pre-determined strategy. As necessary, follow up gifts with timely
information and/or reports on projects they have supported with
their gifts.
6. Explain planned giving options to donors, as needed,
so donors can meet their charitable objectives as well as their
short- and long-term financial objectives.
7. Submit activity reports on a weekly basis. Participate
in phone conference calls or in-house meetings with the major
donor and church relations team for the purpose of strategic planning
and evaluation.
8. Request proposals, reports and other written materials
as needed from the creative staff of Marketing. When the Major
Gifts Officer writes materials, ensure that all necessary approvals
are received prior to submitting to a donor.
9. Develop a knowledge of Multi-Cultural programs, through
reading reports, conversing with staff, visiting project sites,
etc., and be prepared to discuss any project with donors and potential
donors.
10. Find opportunities for other Multi-Cultural staff
- especially the president and international field staff visiting
the United States - to speak at area events, business lunches
and President's Circle gatherings, for the purpose of furthering
the ministry of World Relief.
KEY
SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS:
Professionally - 3-5 years major donor fund raising experience;
good communication skills, both written and verbal; people-oriented;
highly self-motivated; minimum of an undergraduate degree. Personally
- A genuine commitment to Christ and a desire to serve Him; and
a heart for the poor and the ability to articulate this to others.
Willingness to travel up to 25 percent of the year.
